B i o g r a p h y

Alexander Swan  studied at the Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique de Paris with Glenn Chambers where he obtained his diploma (first prize) and with Donald Litaker at the Staatliche Hochschule für Musik in Karlsruhe, Germany. He was hailed by l'ADAMI "révélation classique".

 

His roles include Count Almaviva (Il Barbiere di Siviglia), Don Ottavio (Don Giovanni), Le Chevalier de la Force (Les Dialogues des Carmelites) at Saint-Etienne Opera; Des Grieux (Manon Lescaut by Auber) at the Wexford Festival; Kornelis (La Princesse Jaune by Camille Saint-Saens) at the Opéra Comique in Paris; Florville (Il Signor Bruschino) at Bordeaux Opera; Gomatz (Zaide), the Rector (Peter Grimes) at Montpellier Opera; the title role in Albert Herring by Benjamin Britten; Fritz (La Grande Duchesse de Gerolstein) at Toulon Opera; Arturo (Lucia di Lammermoor) at the Opera de Tours; Gran Sacerdote (Idomeneo), Graf Albert (Die Tote Stadt by Korngold) at Nancy Opera; Gardefeu (La Vie parisienne) at the Capitole de Toulouse; Pâris (La Belle Hélène) at Marseille Opera; Macduff (Macbeth) at the Théâtre du Trianon, Paris; Gran Sacerdote  (Idomeneo) at the Grand Theatre de Luxembourg and Caen Opera and at the Aix-en-Provence Festival (Une situation H. P. Newton).

Concert appearances include L’Enfance du Christ by Hector Berlioz conducted by John Nelson at Las Palmas; Die Zauberflöte (first armed man) conducted by Marc Minkowski at Montpellier Opera; Schubert mass in e flat, conducted by John Nelson at the Festival de Saint Denis; Romeo et Juliette by H. Berlioz conducted by Serge Baudo in Prague, Haydn’s Die Schöpfung at the festival des Heures Romantiques; Fiesque by Lalo with Roberto Alagna conducted by Alain Altinoglu at the festival of Radio France Montpellier (Deutsch Grammophon recording); Mozart Requiem, Acis and Galatea by G.F. Handel in Paris; Les Illuminations by B. Britten at Tours Opera; Carmina Burana in Brazil (Rio, Porto Alegre); Die erste Walpurgisnacht by Mendelssohn at the Grand Amphithéâtre of the Sorbonne in Paris; L’Enfance du Christ, Solomon at the Oratorio Festival in Marseille.

This year, Alexander Swan sang the rôles of Nadir (les Pêcheurs de perles by Bizet) at the Opera of Craiova, Nemorino (L’Elisir d’Amore by Donizetti) and Almaviva (The Barber of Seville by Rossini) at the Théâtre du Ranelagh in Paris. In concert he sang the tenor solo in Bach’s Magnificat, La Petite Messe Solennelle de Rossini and Cosi fan tutte (excerpts) at the Frick Collection in New York.
